Jig Fishing for Bass
Jigs are great lures for attracting inactive bass in heavy structure. They can be used in the heaviest of cover if a good weed guard is in place. The key to fishing this type of lure is a slow lifelike presentation. This is accomplished by using the jig as a drop bait. Let the lure fall straight to the bottom and use the bounce and reel technique. You can also fish the lure in open water by casting out the lure in open water, letting it sink and slow reeling the lure across the bottom. The deeper the water the heavier jig you want to use. The idea is to use the lightest lure you can get away with while still being able to feel the bottom. Color selection is very similar to a worms, the lighter the water the lighter the lure, darker water requires darker colored lures.
As a rule fish jigs slowly all season, but the colder the water the slower you should fish the jig.
Also jigs seem to
work very well at night when fish are more inactive.
